Draft Survey — determination of the amount of loaded cargo according to the draft of the vessel. Draft is measured by Plimsoll’s marks (see photo). It is used for bulk cargo (grain, coal, cast iron …)
Pre-loading survey is used to determine the condition of the cargo (damage, rust, etc.) immediately prior to loading. The inspection results are claused in the bills of lading in order to limit the carrier’s liability.
On / Off-hire Bunker & Condition survey — Inspection of the general condition of the vessel and determination of the amount of fuel on board when the vessel is accepted for freight or when leaving the freight.
